Furr`s Fresh Buffet in McAllen

For a decent price, I had my choice of many classic American entrees, including Furr's famous fried chicken. A wide variety of side dishes and desserts were available for a complete homestyle dinner. Assistant Manager David Montalvo has a friendly staff and a clean restaurant. I look forward to future visits with his ice cream bar and cherry sauce.

It was a wonderful experience. Service was great. Our server took very good care of us. The food....excellent. Front of the house, Back of the house...Great Job guys! Thank you all for making this a great experience.

Good food but could use a good cleaning. Stains on carpet and ceiling tiles make you question the health standards.

2nd time coming here, had some chicken fried steak, mash, corn. Pretty good food, cozy clean place, loved desert. Waiter was very attentive, only problem was that restrooms reekd all the way to the hallways. Maybe a plumbing issue.. but other than that dinner was petty good.

Limited options for a buffet. The salad was lean and the meat options looked tired. Best option was the enchilada and that looked a little old sitting on the plate. Desserts had a solid selection with pies, cobblers, cakes and soft serve. Fair priced.

Food was severely undercooked and raw in the middle or so overcooked that you couldn't eat it with literally no in-between, the food quality in general was severely lacking, everything was lukewarm like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours even though we had gotten there at a little past noon, food was either absolutely flavorless or so salty that it was inedible, and there was a bug crawling out of the mashed potatoes. Needless to say this was my first and last dining experience with Furrs. I'm surprised they aren't shut down yet with all that nastiness. If I could get my money back, I would. There are way better places to spend your money and get some actual, decent food. Do not recommend, not even to my worst enemies. 🤢🤮

The food was alright but the desert was amazing. The restrooms were unsanitary and needs cleaning and work on.

It is not what it used to be. Selection is very limited and not cooked well. Over cooked pastas, and meats. There was no fresh fruit. No toppings for the "ice cream". Just the food quality overall need to improve.

Smells like mold and mildew in there. Food is cold. Tastes like old hospital food. And even the cold food isn't good. Salad bar veggies taste room temperature. Dressings are extremely thin, as if they add water to them, especially the ranch and the French dressing. Even the Jello on salad bar isn't even cold enough - to the point that it's melting. Server staff is rude and have no boundaries. A server named Rose started flirting with customers. Super unprofessional. If you must have a buffet, go somewhere else.

Very bad service food was nasty and chicken was not fully cooked not worth coming here small variety of food as well

Furr's Fresh Buffet is a classic for buffet lines. I'm not a fan of the buffet lines or cafeteria lines, but at least the food was good. You won't find five star fancy dining, but you will get good service and decent food. I will be back.

Food was not fresh! We went at 4:30pm. There were empty food bins. Ice cream area was messy. No one went to clean. Our wait person never came to our table.

As a Google local guide I was taking pictures of the food so people who've never been here can see what they serve but I was told to stop taking pictures of the food as it was not permitted. I felt like I was in elementary school being reprimanded by the principal. On the other side the price 11.49 was cheap and I would argue with anyone who thinks it isn't considering the quality of the food served and the price of other restaurants. It's just a couple of dollars more than what you pay for burger king or other fast food but more selection and I would say better quality. I really enjoyed the food. I had turkey,stuffing mashed potatoes and gravy carrot caserol and amazing fried shrimp, pecan pie a brownie and ice cream. In all I would say it's a great value. I will probably visit other mom and pop restauants that really appreciate the professional photos and free promotions I do to help them and I recommend everyone to do the same.

The food is ok, losing quality, they leave dishes there for over an hour getting cold. Carpet smells on left side of the entrance. Need go back to the old good quality days!

The food that was fresh was really good. But lots of old food that was dried out in pan. And then replaced with more dried out food. Lol. Desserts are great. Restaurant and bathrooms were filthy. Could smell raw sewage. Staff inattentive with some staff sitting on curb in front of restaurant smoking.

I don't know what happened to the Furrs we used to know, but the food at this restaurant was pretty bad today. Some of the food was over cooked and one of the desserts even tasted burned. We were so disappointed, that's why only 1 star today. And it sucks that we can't serve ourselves like before. I freaking hate covid-19!

Low quality food. Good place if you're on a budget and favor fast food. However, the freshest thing here is the kale on display for decoration purposes. The service was excellent, however. The staff was attentive.

AWESOME Service. My server was Raul R. down in McAllen, Tx. It was July 4th, so I was the only one there.

This place is like a truck stop restaurant from the 80s. Bathrooms smelled water everywhere. Restaurant smelled and everything is old and outdated including the furniture. I could feel the steel springs in my butt. The floors had food all over w signs directly near the food LOL why not just clean it? I waited 30 min for millionaire pie the only reason I went in. I left without gratuitously stuffing my pieho mouth :(Food was missing all over. Only thing that tasted good was fried fish. Avoid at all cost

When we entered there was no hello or anything. He asked if it was just the two of us and if we wanted water or soda. There were not many people inside the restaurant. The quality of the food is average at best and the overall choices are not impressive. The place smells like funky old carpet. There are small flies everywhere The water tastes absolutely terrible. The staff was cleaning tables. That was pretty much the only good thing going on here. This is the worst buffet I've been to. We won't be back.

First time ever going to Furr's restaurant and I truly enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent. The service was top notch and every employee I encountered in the restaurant was very friendly and helpful. The desserts are not to be missed they are excellent!

I can take all my kids to eat on Thursday for $1.99. Food is good nice environment

There's bugs in the food...thought it was a garnish until it started crawling away. Food is comparable to Hungry Man dinners, everything is cold, under seasoned, or over seasoned. Very limited selections, most dishes were either cold or coagulated beyond recognition. Overpriced for what is, would not recommend.

Paid 68 for 4 adult buffets and 4 drinks...food was cold and had been sitting for awhile i guess...no customer service and very little fresh food to choose from...no desserts available 530 pm on a Tuesday what a shame will never return...it did smell like sewer and the ac. Didnt work...i would strongly urge persons too stay away from this restaurant

Food always fresh and servers and ready to help you out with anything you might need. I enjoy their enchiladas and baked goods/goods. They need more food options.

Smells clean when you walk in & the host was nice. The service from the waiter was great & the area is clean. The food selection was good too, filled myself w/ some good choice of food.

Every thing was nasty fish was hard an tasted old all my son ate was chips an queso an those were stale he got the spaghetti an it was ugly gravy were so salty all I ate was the stuffing an a piece of red velvet cake ..... an since I moved over here I been wanting to try this place I should have passed an for $34 never going their again I never comment on these reviews but it was nastiest food I’ve ever had the only good thing was the waiter the man was very nice an don’t even get me started on the bathroom!!!!! Smelled terrible

Loved coming here, my family and I always eat the same thing, fried steak with gravy. They changed the GRAVY to a DISGUSTING SUPER SALTY super dark brown gravy that tastes NASTY, it tasted sooo strong, I had to get another plate with new steak but it completely ruined my meal. It WAS one of my favorite places to eat homemade cafeteria style american food. I feel so sad that I will no longer be able to get the delicious steak with gravy, I tried the mushroom gravy and it was the same thing but with mushrooms. My daughter loved the chicken strips AND NOW THEY DON'T HAVE THEM ON THE MENU😝😝🤢😝😝🤢😝🤢😝😝

The food is excellent! We come by often for lunch. The staff is friendly and the service is great. I highly recommend it.

Although the food was ok the service was TERRIBLE. We bussed our own plates and refilled our own drinks while the wait staff watched a soccer match on TV. I asked for Cherry cobbler twice and both times the staff was dismissive and acted like they didn't see me. Just terrible service. The worst part was the men's rest room. The smell was overwhelming and disgusting. Dirty toilet paper on the floor no paper towels and sticky floor along with dirty mirrors. DON'T spend your money here go to Crazys... Better staff and service.

It was alright food pretty bland not gonna lie about that. But my problem is how staff sometimes don’t keep their mask up ESPECIALLY NOT COVERING THEIR NOSE. Like come on we’re in a global pandemic people.

The food was OK but the buffet layout was unorganized. Had to go to 4 different sections to get seafood. Could have had better placement (ex. Chicken products with Chicken, beef with beef, seafood with seafood, and sides with sides...) Or maybe that's just me🕵

It’s a great place to eat, if you are looking for a good place to eat, a different option instead of Chinese this is a good option, of course depending on the day and the hours it will change your experience and also depending on the waitresses, the kind of mood they and you are. But rather than other negative comments I will definitely recommend this place, a classic one in the valley

Food was hard and tasted nasty.. Server was acting like we were a bother when we first got there... The deserts were good, but the food i was very displeased.. Never again, brought my mom that came in from Houston and she hated it also.. Very very bad rating from me and just lost 6 customers...

I had given this business a 5 star rating prior to this one and this time not even a 1 star do they deserve. Cold food, zero choices of food selection. You don't coward up and fail. When the going gets tough the tough get going. Hope this is a wake up call for the survival of this business.Respectfully,Mr. Al Romo

Food is delicious. Place is clean. Great variety for everyone in my family.

Senior special, good prices,the downside is they have to serve your food and they are too slow because there was only one person doing that when we were there.

Food and staff were good. It used to be better, but it was still good. The city needs to fix issues making parts of the city smell like taw sewage. Unfortunately the restroom area of this restaurant is affected by it no matter how well they cleaned & how many air fresheners they had.

It's a great family buffet restaurant. Lot of good quality food. For a good price..

Chopped steak, ham, mashed potatoes, a salad and a roll. It was so good.

The service was horrible!!! Never asked my mom if she wanted a refill on her coffee. We had to move our dirty dishes to a different table that was empty. No Millionaire Pie!!! Very little variety!!! We will not be back. Never asked how everything was. Very poorly managed.
